Whether because I forgot, I didn’t make the time, I didn’t want to or I just didn’t care, these are the things I didn’t do in my 30 days in Thailand:
In no particular order…
- See the Reclining Buddha in Bangkok
- Ride an elephant
- Tour the Grand Palace in Bangkok
- See tigers
- Relax on the southern beaches & islands
- See a sex show, ping-pong or otherwise
- Read The Beach
- Shop for souvenirs
- Go on a trek in the jungle
- Rent a motorbike
- Take drugs
- Partake in any sort of adventure activity
- Take a cooking class
- Learn to meditate
- Go fishing
- Take a massage course
- Stay in a swanky hotel or timeshare resort
- Go snorkeling
- Learn to dive
- Visit tribal villages
- Volunteer
- Order custom clothing
- Learn fire dancing
There are probably some other things I didn’t do, too. Next time!

30 days cannot cover all the list Adam.
Just learn to meditate only is more than a month.

This is a great list for the next time you visit! I missed so many things in Italy and to keep myself from getting bummed I would just say – “well I had to save something for next time!” I think next time learning fire dancing should be at the top of your to do list – sounds pretty cool!

I think I’ve done everything on the list but theres still a million more things I want to do. Thats why I love Thailand! And it gives a perfect excuse to go back in the future!

There are SO many things I still want to do, even some more I’ve thought up since making this list. So obviously I’ll be back :)

You don’t have to do it all like you’re out on day parole, only to be locked away for the rest of your life in the prison that is Corporate America … since you’re freelancing now, and if you make travel a component of your life until you are physically unable to do so, you’ll be back at a later date to do whatever interests you. If something just doesn’t interest you, like petting drugged tigers (I didn’t do it either, so sketchy), then let the Chang beer tank toppers go on their merry way, and go do your own thing!
Did you visit Koh Chang … so much better than the South Islands imo!

Well said, James!
And yup, went to Koh Chang and stayed on Lonely Beach. Really enjoyable. Going to head to the south islands later on so can’t compare it too much. Seems people either love or hate Koh Chang….

Great Adam! I’ve been living in Thailand on and off for 1.5 years and I have done about 1/4 of the things on your list. Lately I have really been contemplating why so many people think that you must “check off” the list of “attractions” for you to be able to say you traveled there. If you came to Thailand, met a few locals, ate glorious food, and enjoyed yourself that has potential to be a lot more valuable than wasting money at the tourist norms. Well done man!

Done and done.

Wow, I don’t want to say you missed out on some of the most emblematic sites in Thailand, but what did you see/do while you were there? That is the question.
Thailand will always be there (and hopefully the elephants and tigers, too).
You’ll hit those destinations next time, for sure.

What I did see is definitely the point! Kind of important for people to realize that you don’t always have to do the same things everyone else did, and still have a great time….

Thailand has nice beaches for relaxing and enjoying their beauty. I think you missed something really good.

Haha. I read The Beach in Thailand and felt like a cliche the whole time. Plus, the book kinda sucks.

haha! I read the book a while back and remember liking it, but I don’t remember it much now. Still never saw the movie either….
