Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral)

View of Berlin from the top of the Berliner Dom (Berlin Cathedral)

Hi. I’m going to ramble on and on.

I’m in Berlin, Germany. This is my second time here in a month. I first arrived from Vietnam almost exactly a month ago. I ended up staying that time for two awesome weeks where I had way too much fun, and spent way more than I could have or should have. But whatever, that was the point of this Eurotrip.

So then I made some silly decisions. Instead of just staying in Berlin, where all the awesome is, I figured I’d go to Prague and then on to Vienna to visit an ex. Not sure what I was thinking with that one, but whatever. I got out of there and now I’m back in Berlin. Whew!

And tonight I’m going to see the final Harry Potter film!  It’s the little things that start to cheer me up now that I’ve been traveling for so long. I’m definitely beginning to feel exhausted of traveling, and anxious to see friendly faces. It probably doesn’t help that last weekend, for three not-long-enough days, my parents came into town.

Last weekend my parents flew into Berlin so they could visit me. I haven’t seen them since last May. I’d ordered a new computer and they kindly offered to bring it to me in Europe, so we arranged to meet in Berlin. As always, it was nice to be spoiled. And, since I’ve been without music since March, they even brought me an iPod! Like I said, it’s often the littler things that make me happy. Movies and music.

Of course, now that I have this half-baked plan of living in Berlin for a month or two, I could use some other things to make me happy. A place to live, for one. I’m going to keep working at it, and try to give this plan a shot. Because I really do want to stay here longer. And I really don’t think I’m just quite ready to go home.

I don’t know what’s going to happen over the next few weeks. But whatever. I’ll just keep smiling and hope for a little luck.

  1. Go for it man. I have a similar half-baked plan about living and working in Spain… and you know what their economy is like right now!! At least you´ve narrowed down a city. Berlin for me was friggin´ awesome, and I was only there 3 days… but it was probably due to the AMAZING CouchSurfing community that exists there. Get onto it, if you´re not already… there are some FUN people calling Berlin home at the moment.

    • I’d love to live in Spain for a bit, too, I think! Madrid is such an awesome city and it’s definitely affordable (though probably not as much so as Berlin).

And yep, I’ve definitely gotten in with the CS community here. I’ve stayed with a few people and met a ton more. There are so many fascinating people to meet in Berlin, I don’t know if I’ll ever be able to get out of here!

  2. Adam you sure are blessed to travel all over the world! Have you been to Scotland? Seen your videos pretty amazing travels!

    • Hey Laurie!
Thanks so much. I haven’t been to Scotland yet, but hopefully if I can manage to get a graphic design job somewhere in Europe, it’ll be on my list of places to get to. Especially because of all the Harry Potter stuff :)

Hope the summer on the Cape is nice!

  3. I was there two years ago and i was impressed. Unfortunately i had no time to visit it very well because i was there for only two days, but i hope to visit it again very soon. I recommend this place, it is very nice.

on how a fellow blogger stayed in Germany. Unless you are highly skill, teaching English seems to be the best way in. But it’s only valid in Germany, not the entire EU.

    Good Luck!

    • Oh thanks! Didn’t know about that blog. I had heard it’s easier in Germany than most other European countries to find work as an American. I’m just beginning to test that theory out…
