The Millennial that I am, I love a good social travel experience. Travel for me is all about meeting new people, interacting with other travelers and getting new experiences. That’s why I was excited to hear about the relaunch of inbed.me as WeHostels.
Making hostels even more social
WeHostels is billed as the app that allows you to book your hostel on the go and make friends before you get there. It seems to me that they’re trying to take the worry out of meeting people at hostels.
As a backpacker I tend to gravitate toward hostels when I’m looking for an affordable place to stay and a great way to meet other travelers. Hostels work really well in Europe—they’re essentially the best place for meeting backpackers.
Steph over at Twenty-Something Travel recently offered four reasons why hostels are still awesome. Her first reason? Because “you meet people.”
But some hostels are better than others for meeting people. This travel app tries to make the experience even easier.
About the WeHostels app
WeHostels plans to make that part of the social travel experience even easier—allowing you to book the most social hostels via your iPhone. The travel app recommends the top 5 hostels for major cities. If you connect the app with your own social media, you can even see other people who are planning to stay in the same hostel. Sounds like a genius plan to me to make travel that much more social!

Hi Josh,
Thanks for the feedback!
Most people stay in hostels because they want to meet people, and as Adam said, there hasn’t really been a push to merge this social aspect with the new technology available today. With WeHostels we are bringing hostelling into the social/mobile era.

I think this is a cool app. Will come in handy for travellers. Will be it be covering most major cities of the world? If it does then its great.

I’m not sure what their plan is but so far it seems to have most major cities around the world…

Cool app. And neat to see them tap into the super social side of hostelling. I’ve had some pretty shady hostel experiences in my day – I can see how an app like this would be helpful.

I agree, Josh! Hostels are so social and not many companies have figured out to take advantage of that yet.
