Why I visit casinos despite a penchant for wanting to save my money

Tags:

I already explained how reading Shakespeare made me want to visit England, and I’m fairly certain that it was watching James Bond movies that made me want to visit casinos. In movies and marketing, casinos oftentimes are glamorized as a sign of extreme wealth and exuberance. As someone who enjoys a bit of style in my life, casinos are a great way to escape the normal routine and live a life that’s seemingly extraordinary.

Casinos get my interest (and my money) for a handful of reasons.

The atmosphere

This one’s subjective because really, there are a million different types of casinos. But I’m mostly referring to the types of casinos you’d find on the Vegas strip, Monte Carlo or Macau. Playing slot games at Ladbrokes online just doesn’t cut it for me. To me, the whole point of a casino is as much the atmosphere as it is the making (and more often, losing) of money.

Something about a night out in a casino makes men & women dress up. And with the grandiose architecture, five-star shopping and gourmet restaurants, it’s hard not to feel special inside a casino.

The food

Maybe because everyone in a casino is simply living up their life for the night, but I often fall in love with the food & culinary scene in casinos. Restaurants usually cover the whole gamut—from cheap & fun to luxurious and expensive. On a visit to a casino in Oklahoma, I pretty much spent my entire time in a burger joint.

What I love about casinos is how much variety they offer. If I’m at the casino with a Big Spender, when I run out of money (which always happens first), I usually head straight for a restaurant or bar. That’s when I’ll grab a cocktail (or a milkshake) and sit back and just enjoy the scene.

The people-watching

I’ve already touched upon this, but if you’ve ever visited a casino, you’ll know what I mean. The people who spend hours (maybe days) in casinos are a sight to see! Gambling can be a real addiction so it’s no surprise, but in one panoramic eyeshot of the casino floor you’ll probably spot some sexy young things, middle-aged housewives and chain-smoking grandmas. You have to see it for yourself!

The excitement

I’ve never bet much in a casino. My money usually goes toward cheeseburgers and milkshakes, but there is definitely a thrill to dropping a few bucks. One of the things I recommend the most to travelers, if possible, is to put aside some money and use it without care or abandon. There’s something exhilarating about taking $100 and losing it all within an hour. Of course, it’d probably be more exciting to turn that into a six-figure number, but hey, losing can be as much fun as winning. It’s all how you look at it.

In the end, I really do enjoy the occasional visit to a casino. I’m not talking about making all my trips about it, but maybe once or twice a year, a visit to the slots can be as much fun as any other destination.

  1. I’m the same of you, I love Casinos. They’re so much fun… until, of course, you wake up the next morning and realise that you’ve ruined your life xx
