Antwerp Skyline

While in Antwerp I made a point to cross the river so I could get a photo of the city’s skyline. Even on a cloudy day I’d say it’s quite pretty!

Antwerp Travel Guide

The ultimate guide to the best things to do and see in Antwerp

Known for fries, chocolate and beer, this port city is the largest in Belgium. With a long and fascinating history, great food and fun nightlife, it certainly has a lot to offer visitors! Start here with my basic Antwerp travel tips, or jump down below to read my latest Antwerp travel blogs.

When to Visit

Summer months such as July and August are peak tourist season all over Belgium, but that’s also when you’ll find a number of great art, culture and music festivals taking place all over Antwerp.

In winter before the end of the year, the streets come alive with the myriad Christmas markets, and though it can be cold, the atmosphere is magical! Basically, visit Antwerp at any time of year and you’ll be able to find something cool happening, just don’t forget to pack a sweater, even potentially in the summer!

Top Things To Do

Visit Rubenshuis – Home and studio of the local 16th century painter, Peter Paul Rubens built this house himself, and it’s now one of the most interesting museums in Antwerp, giving you a fascinating look into his life and what the city was like 400 years ago.

Eat all the food – ‘French’ fries, waffles, chocolate, beer, Antwerp has all the best foods! I recommend Desire de Lille for the waffles covered in whipped cream, the Chocolate Line for some weird flavored chocolates and the city’s local beer, Seef beer.

Explore Kopstraatje – This tiny side street in central Antwerp is covered in street art with painted works, stencils and paste-ups everywhere. It’s small, but the art is so densely packed it’s worth taking your time drinking it all in.

Antwerp Tours

Although it’s a relatively small city, taking a tour around Antwerp will save you time and get you in to some areas of the city you might otherwise overlook, so it’s definitely worth you time to consider one.

LGBTQ – Gay Antwerp Travel Guide

These are a few of the best things you should know about visiting gay Antwerp.

Club Random – A typical gay club, this place has free entry (except on Saturdays) and it attracts a very mixed crowd. Music is mostly electro, house and techno, but they also host regular events and themed nights.

Sauna ‘t Herenhuis – This cosy men’s sauna is one of the city’s oldest and best-loved. It’s laid-back, relaxed and welcoming and serves decent food too if you’re feeling too lazy to go elsewhere after unwinding in the steam room!

Antwerp Pride – Taking place annually in early August, Antwerp Pride is a week full of events, some just for fun, some political and all aiming to unite the local and visiting LGBT community.

Antwerp Hotel Deals

Antwerp has plenty of cool and quirky hotels, as well as all the big chains you’d expect. They’ll likely get full when there’s a conference or special event in town, so definitely consider booking in advance. I’ve found that using Booking.com, Agoda.com or Hotels Combined can be really useful for finding last-minute deals.

Antwerp Travel Blogs

This past weekend was the 2nd annual pride parade in Antwerp, Belgium. I was a guest of Visit Flanders tourism and spent the weekend binging on Belgian beer, fries and seafood, with plenty of time indulging in Antwerp’s gay nightlife. The pride weekend included open-air parties with live music, appearances by Loreen (Eurovision winner) and …
