Christopher Street Day is Berlin’s annual gay pride parade & festival. I was also in Berlin for CSD in 2011 so I was excited to attend this year’s event as well. Thankfully the weather cooperated and it was a beautiful day full of beautiful people!
What I love most about gay pride events is seeing so many smiling faces. There’s an incredible amount of diversity among GLBT people and days like Christopher Street Day in Berlin bring out some truly awesome colors. And while I think there’s something to say about gay pride every day—not just during “Pride Month”—visibility is important nonetheless. Even Anderson Cooper thinks so:
I’ve also been reminded recently that while as a society we are moving toward greater inclusion and equality for all people, the tide of history only advances when people make themselves fully visible. There continue to be far too many incidences of bullying of young people, as well as discrimination and violence against people of all ages, based on their sexual orientation, and I believe there is value in making clear where I stand.
