This summer while discovering the cool things to do in Helsinki, I used one of my favorite iPhone apps to find out about Helsinki’s hipster cafe called Ihana Kahvila. Located in an industrial area over 1500m from the nearest metro station, it was worth the trek to find. Walking through the old shipyard and current construction site, I followed chalk-drawn arrows to get to the coast where eventually I found the shipping containers which had been converted into a cafe, shop and hangout space.
Ihana Kahvila seemed to be popular with young families, slightly fashionable albeit lazy twenty-somethings and graffiti artists who were using the space to refuel. On a long stretch of wall along the path to the cafe, artists were painting murals (and re-painting). Ihana Kahvila has popped up every summer for since 2011, and was one of many hip cafés I discovered in Helsinki. View more of my favorite bars & cafés in Helsinki on AFAR.com.
