Ever wonder where the best pizza slice in New York City is? Or where to get brunch in Berlin? With a free iPhone app, you can discover new places or see what your friends are into right at that very moment. Instagram and other app-only social networks are fun and all, but Amen is not only fun but also useful.
You can use the free iPhone app to find the best (and worst) of just about anything.
About Amen
Amen is an iPhone app (and apparently a secret Android app) for creating and sharing opinions about the extra ordinary things in life. You can use it to take a stand about the best and worst people, places, things and ideas. You know—nouns.
Users basically choose a noun, choose a superlative and then can add photos or other qualifiers to their statement. Once your statement is live, other users can find it and either give it an “Amen!” or a “Hell no!” If someone rejects your statement, they’ll have to give an alternative.
For every statement you can view how many people have agreed or disagreed—and also see the alternatives. And just like in real life, you can always change your mind.
How to use Amen as a travel guide
With the free Amen iPhone app, you can search for keywords to see all the things being said about that particular subject. Whether it’s Ryan Gosling or Ray’s Pizza.
If you’re in a new city, try searching for the city inside the app to discover what’s being said about it. Searching for more specific places will give you more specific answers. Searching for your favorite bar in Berlin might bring up lots of people in agreement, but someone else may just recommend a place you haven’t discovered yet.
Careful now, Amen’s app is pretty addictive. Because people not only use it for local travel tips, but just about everything—from the best songs to listen to during sex to the funniest thing overheard all day.

Quirky little app. Just installed it to give it a try, looks really polished.
Hey David –
It’s a beautiful app from the design/UX perspective. And it’s pretty fun, too. Let me know how you get on with it!
Never heard of it, but just installed it after reading this. If I get addicted it’s totally your fault :)
Yay! It’s pretty fun but sometimes I have to remember to use it.
This sounds like great fun and right up my street. I’ll have to download it immediately.
Great website, Adam :-)
Thanks Colleen. And yep, the Amen app is definitely a lot of fun!
Just remember, popular isn’t always great. McDonalds is the most popular restaurant in the world.
Good point, Billy! But one of the best tips of advice I had for much of backpacking was to eat at the more crowded restaurants. This was especially helpful in India where we were sometimes worried about the cleanliness and whether the food would be safe. If there were lots of people, then it’d likely (but not always!) be a good place to eat!
