In November 2014, Travels of Adam partnered with airBerlin and Visit Berlin to give away a trip to Berlin for one lucky sweepstakes winner. View the sweepstakes page here. The sweepstakes lasted for the entire month of November and was a resounding success, generating increased exposure for the city of Berlin. Ultimately, the sweepstakes was launched to promote the Berlin Hipster Guide (available for free and exclusively on travelsofadam.com), with both airBerlin and Visit Berlin receiving premium ad placement in the guide during the duration of the sweepstakes.
The sweepstakes included a prize of:
- airfare for 1 winner (and a guest) from airBerlin’s USA destinations (NYC, LA and Chicago) to be redeemed between Jan 1, 2015-Dec 31, 2015
- 4-night hotel stay in Berlin
Display ads were created and used exclusively on travelsofadam.com to capture traffic to the website that may not have already been aware of the contest. The sweepstakes was launched only on travelsofadam.com in a blog post and neither Visit Berlin nor airBerlin promoted the contest through their social media.
There were 15,846 entries for the contest from 6,515 separate email addresses.
During the duration of the promotion, the contest was featured by Out Traveler, Gay Star News, My Destination, the Apex (Airline Passenger Experience) blog, Details.com as well as some podcasts (Travel Writing 2.0, The Barefoot Journal, others) and plenty of social media exposure (including Lonely Planet, AFAR and Yahoo Travel). The sweepstakes was also mentioned in presentations at the WTM travel conference in London and a November Travel Massive event in Berlin.
For the month of November, the Berlin Hipster Guide received over 10,000 visits. The giveaway page had another 5,000 additional views.
In general, travelsofadam.com averages 130,000 pageviews per month with 70-80,000 unique visitors.
