Bah! I seriously dislike travel planning. I know I’m going to America at the beginning of Fall to attend some friends’ weddings, but the idea that I have to be at a particular place at a particular time is starting to irk me. Three weddings, both coasts and in the middle, too. How do I manage 30 days back in America so that I can see everyone I want to, enjoy a bit of poolside time at my parent’s house AND travel a bit, too. Not to mention being able to do it affordably.
So my rough plan is to start my American holiday in Texas with some time spent being a kid again—home-cooked meals and days of doing nothing except some swimming and maybe a jog at the park. After I get bored of that (trust me, it won’t take long), I’ll grab a cheap flight to San Francisco where I’ll rent a car and head to my friend’s wedding. I’d love to keep driving up up up so I can combine the trip with a visit to Portland. It’s been years of me talking about hipster this and hipster that and I still haven’t ever seen Portland. Hopefully it’ll happen on this trip.
Give me just a week or so on the West Coast and I’ll be all dude’d out. I’ll have several weeks between the West Coast wedding and the East Coast one, so I’m not sure yet how to fill the void. One thing that’s certain is I won’t have much money to throw around. Or if I do, I’ll probably still be a spendthrift and miser it away. There are handful of cities in America I’ve always wanted to see, and a handful of more that I want to explore a bit deeper. I’ll use my extra few weeks traveling around until I eventually land in Boston—my old turf.
It’s been over two years since I’ve been in Boston and I definitely am well overdue for a visit. Old friends, my favorite burritos and hopefully some dancing at my favorite indie music clubs. All in a day’s work!
With just a short amount of time to spend in America, I’ve got a lot of ground to cover! And a lot of ground that I want to cover. Luckily those overlap quite a bit.
Wow, that’s cramming a lot into 30 days! You should definitely see Portland though. And say hi if you come through Chicago.
I know – it’s too much! But I haven’t had any serious amount of time back in the States for a while now and I owe a lot of visits to old friends…. I’ll have to figure something out…
I am looking forward to having you home, cooking some great meals for you and generally just spoiling you rotten. Maybe I can coax my other kids to come home for a few days so we can all be together. Love you and miss you!
Sooo, FYI, I’m going to Florida for the whole week of Labor Day, and I’m really not sure if I’ll be able to see you at all those 2 weekends. Hopefully you can have a weekend in DFW or Austin a little later in the month? Also, your favorite burritos are in Boston, not Texas?!
