Travel blogs and features from Boston, Massachusetts
The City on the Hill, Massachusetts’ largest and capital city, is a place not to be missed! Full of history, art, theatre and food from all over the world. Start here with my basic Boston travel tips, or jump down below to read my latest Boston travel blogs.
In order to be able to enjoy the city by foot and perhaps take in a baseball game or outdoor concert, the best time to visit Boston is between June and October. In summer months, it does get busy with tourism, but the warm weather makes for a wonderful time to experience the finest of what the city has to offer. In fall, it’s usually still warm enough to get around most places by foot but come winter, the temperatures drop considerably and you’ll want to wrap up warm. Nonetheless, there’s something to see and do at any time of year in Boston!
Also – it’s worth visiting Boston as a home base during the autumn/fall. You can spend a few days in the city and then rent a car and head out on some truly beautiful day trips along the coast or out into Western Massachusetts.
Museum of Fine Arts – The fourth largest museum in the United States, this institution contains almost half a million works of art, meaning it’s one of the most extensive art collections in the Americas. The changing exhibitions are perhaps the biggest draw here, and include such themes as diverse as contemporary American photography and classical Japanese calligraphy.
Samuel Adams Brewery – Take a one hour free tour of this historic brewery and learn the story of this Boston institution…but most importantly to try out all their different ales!
Rose Fitzgerald Kennedy Greenway – Boston’s answer to New York City’s High Line, this linear park cutting through several of the city’s downtown neighbourhoods is best enjoyed on a summer’s afternoon when locals and tourists alike come to enjoy the green space in the middle of bustling Boston.
There’s so much history to learn about in Boston it can be a little overwhelming to tackle it by yourself. Instead, check out this selection of tours in Boston.
Boston is a haven of queer life, and an extremely gay-friendly city. As Massachusetts was the first state in the US to introduce marriage equality back in 2004, it is among the most progressive cities in America and has a lot to offer LGBT visitors. These are a few of the most important things you should know about.
Bisexual Resource Center – This unique center provides educational materials about bisexuality, increases visibility and awareness and holds support groups for bisexual-identified individuals because “bisexuals today are still misunderstood, marginalized and discriminated against”.
Pride – Taking place each June, Boston Pride is a fully accessible, family-friendly event that takes over the downtown area to celebrate diversity and spread love. If you time your visit to Boston to coincide with this event, you won’t regret it!

Boston has plenty of cool and quirky hotels, as well as all the big chains you’d expect. They can get full when there’s a conference or special event in town, so consider booking in advance. I’ve found that using Booking.com, Agoda.com or Hotels Combined can be useful for finding last-minute deals.
