Naples Travel Guide

The ultimate guide to the best things to do and see in Naples

One of Europe’s oldest cities, Naples is known for the ruined Roman city of Pompeii, pizza and, well, being super old! But that’s not all it is! Start here with my basic Naples travel tips, or jump down below to read my latest Naples travel blogs.

When to Visit

The best months to visit Naples are pretty much April, May, September and October because at these times, the weather is good but the temperatures are not too high and the crowds are not too crazy! If you really want the sun and want to explore the nearby beaches, then July is probably the best time, but you will be sharing them with a lot of other visitors.

Top Things To Do

Visit Pompeii – An hour train ride from central Naples, Pompeii is definitely worth a day trip. In the shadow of Mount Vesuvius which erupted more than 2000 years ago and decimated the city, this ruin is the most popular reason to visit Naples.

Eat all the pizza – Don’t pass up the chance to eat some real Neapolitan pizza while in the city! The city’s namesake, the Neapolitan Pizza is simple tomato and mozzarella cheese, but pretty much any type you like made in the traditional southern Italian way is going to be a winner!

Check out MADRE – The Museo d’Arte Contemporanea Donnaregina is one of Naples’ finest museums. Allow yourself several hours to properly explore this large space and marvel at the architecture too. With a range of temporary and permanent exhibitions, it mostly displays up and coming Italian artists, but some international ones too. If you go on a Monday, it’s free.

Naples Tours

Although it’s a relatively small city, taking a tour around Naples will save you time and get you in to some areas of the city you might otherwise overlook, so it’s definitely worth you time to consider one. Take a look at this selection of Naples tours.

LGBTQ – Gay Naples Travel Guide

Italy is one of the world’s most romantic countries which makes it a great destination for LGBTQ couples. While some parts of the country are still very conservative (and religious), Italy has seen many recent successes for LGBTQ equality, and in urban centers like Naples, this is most apparent. These are a few of the best things you should know about visiting gay Naples.

SAME Party – This party moves around the city and takes place just once a month, making it a bit special. It’s very popular with a young crowd and features some cool DJs who visit just for this party. Don’t miss it if you happen to be in town when it’s on!

Criminal Candy – The biggest and best known pop dance party in Naples, this event also takes place at different locations around the city depending on various things. Check their Facebook page to see where it is next.

Macho Lato – With something for everyone, this party has a bit of everything. There’s a bar with a small dance floor on one floor, along with a cruising area and dark room, then a large dance floor and smoking area upstairs. Attracts (though not exclusively) bears and admirers!

Naples Hotel Deals

Naples has plenty of cool and quirky hotels, as well as all the big chains you’d expect. They’ll likely get full when there’s a conference or special event in town, so definitely consider booking in advance.
