I like to say that Belgium is weird. It’s this small little country but with a whole lot of culture. The capital, Brussels, is not just the capital of Belgium, but also the de facto center of European politics.

When to Visit

Summer months such as July and August are peak tourist season in Belgium, but it’s also when you’ll find a number of great art, culture and music festivals taking place in the country.

Traveling for a festival can be a great way to experience a country, and in such a friendly and welcoming destination as Belgium, the festivals are always quite social—a great opportunity for solo travelers.

Belgium is a small country (only 11,000 square miles) but that doesn’t make any less deserving of a full holiday. While the Belgian cities can be great for city trips, it’s also quite a good country for urban exploration on multi-day tours or longer backpacking Eurotrips.
