When to Visit
Conil de la Frontera is a beautiful city and it’s popular year-round. Due to its pristine location on the Costa de la Luz (Coast of the Light), the city is a relatively comfortable temperature year-round. When the waves are strong in the winter months, there will be many more surfers in town; otherwise the picturesque city is great for a visit.
What to do in Conil de la Frontera
While many tourists might simply stop over during a road trip through Andalusia, the city has a lot to offer for those that stay longer.
Learn Spanish! I’ve taken a few different Spanish language courses in Spain, but my favorites have been the ones learning Spanish in Andalusia. The Andalusian accent is a bit different than other Spanish regional dialects, but the region is an absolute fantastic place to base yourself for studying.
In Conil de la Frontera, the language school Academia Atlantika caters to mostly northern Europeans who wish to base themselves in the south for several weeks to learn Spanish. Run by a native German-speaker, the school is one of the best in Andalusia, rated highly by the Goethe Institute.
If you want to try a fully immersive Spanish-language experience in Conil (or elsewhere in Andalusia), the Gondwana Community is a great place to start. They offer language courses and additional experiences such as surfing, cooking and horse-riding for a well-rounded Spanish holiday.
