Travel blogs, photos and features from Alcúdia , Mallorca – a year-round destination on the Balearic island

Alcúdia Travel Guide
Your guide to the coolest things to do and see when traveling in Alcúdia, Spain – only from Travels of Adam.
Alcúdia is an open and friendly city on the Balearic island of Mallorca. Located on the east coast, the sprawling beaches of Alcúdia offer a beautiful destination during the summer months.
Roman ruins, nature parks and a population of local artists and craftspeople make it equally interesting for cultural activities. The old town of Alcúdia itself is one of the region’s best preserved historical sites. You’ll find medieval walls, Roman ruins and 13th century caves. When to Visit
Here’s the thing about Spain—it’s a year-round destination. The Balearic islands, and Mallorca in particular, are huge summer hotspots for international visitors, but visit in the shoulder seasons (or even the winter), and you’ll still find plenty of activities.
Alcúdia, in particular, is situated along the coast making it great for a summer beach holiday, but in the winter, there are nature and other outdoor activities still popular.
Things to do in Alcúdia
Whether it’s exploring the Roman ruins at Pollentia, lounging on the beaches of Platja d’Alcúdia or Platja de Mur, there are lots of great ways to explore the Alcúdia region. Here are some off the beaten path ideas on how to make the most out of a holiday in Alcúdia.
Explore Alcúdia’s culinary scene — You’ll find countless restaurants in Alcúdia—many serving delicious fresh seafood, Spanish tapas and (of course) paella. With a rental car, you’ll find restaurants in the countryside with panoramic views over the sea (try the paellas and other authentic Mallorcan cuisine at Restaurante Mirador de la Victoria). Or for fine dining options, visit the Restaurante El Jardin (or its lunchtime bistro in the same location). The Michelin-starred restaurant offers tasting menus and seasonal dishes based on local availability.
Visit the Alcúdia market — The Alcúdia old town is great for a bit of historical exploration. It’s possible to walk along the ancient medieval walls and visit the old gates to the city. But on Tuesdays and Sundays, the entire town turns into an open-air market. You’ll find fresh and local foods (look out for local olives!) but also inexpensive clothing, crafts and household goods.
Explore contemporary art at Sa Bassa Blanca — One of the region’s best things to do is the Sa Bassa Blanca museum. The foundation began as the home and collection of artists Yannick and Ben Jakober. Today, the contemporary art museum strives to bring art, nature, and architecture together with unique and engaging art exhibitions.
Alcúdia Tours & Trips
Alcúdia is located in the middle of two bays where you’ll find a bit of everything: nature, beaches, birding, culture, (water) sports, gastronomy, and history. The official tourism website, AlcudiaMallorca.com offers a number of ideas for trip itineraries, tours, activities, and other things to do.
LGBTQ – Gay Spain Guide
Spain is one of the easier countries to visit as a tourist, thanks to the friendliness of its people. Spain is as diverse as anywhere else (probably more so), but it’s also quite surprising as a travel destination.
There aren’t any specific LGBTQ highlights for Alcúdia, but the general environment of the town and region is welcoming. As a tourist, you’ll find the Mallorca a great destination whether as a solo traveler or for a romantic holiday.
Alcúdia Hotel Deals
During peak tourist season in Mallorca, it might be a challenge to find quality, affordable accommodation — but there’s usually decent deals to be found on hotel booking websites. In Alcúdia, you’ll find most hotels and resorts located in the port area—that’s likely where you’ll find the best hotels for a beach trip.
There are some hotels and B&Bs located in the Alcúdia old town as well, but the Alcúdia port offers more variety—whether you’re on a romantic holiday, a solo trip, or traveling with your family/kids.
Recommended hotel:
JS Sol de Alcúdia — Part of a Mallorcan chain of hotels, the JS Sol de Alcúdia offers simple but comfortable accommodation. A large outdoor pool area (with a swim-up bar!), a children’s play area and a large restaurant buffet make it a convenient and comfortable choice. The hotel also hosts live music and other themed events on weekends; if you want a more quiet room, request one in the area farthest from the bar/restaurant. The JS Sol de Alcúdia is also located just two blocks from the beach so it’s more affordable and equally comfortable than beachfront hotels. See more photos on their official website.
